Long-ESA 2.0 Navigates Two TV Shoots

Only two days apart, Chip Yates piloted his electric Long-ESA for two lengthy photo shoots for upcoming TV specials.

The site for both was Inyokern Airport, where the electric plane is berthed and tested. On July 20 Discovery Channel’s “Daily Planet”  filmed Yates in a variety of activity including a high-speed fly-by  at 50% throttle, for  a segment to be aired this fall (photos).

And on July 22 Motor Trend TV completed its filming of the final of three shoots that have taken place over the past months for an upcoming 30-minute special on Yates and Flight of the Century.

Yates was enthusiastic about the performance of the electric Long-ESA, which had completed only its second major flight test on July 19. “The plane feels like an absolute rocketship!” he said.
